Arabian Horse: A Flame From the Desert

The Arabian horse is one of the oldest and most influential breeds in the world. Born in the desert, its blood and spirit now live in almost every modern sport horse. From racing tracks to show jumping arenas, the Arabian horse carries the warmth of the desert and the nobility of history.

Al Khamsa – The Five Strains

Bedouin tribes divided Arabian horses into five legendary strains known as Al Khamsa:

  • Kuhaylan – strong and powerful
  • Saqlawi – beautiful and elegant
  • Obeyan – noble, with a proud raised tail
  • Hadban – balanced and tough
  • Hamdani – brave and loyal

These strains became the foundation of Arabian identity and are still recognized by breeders and horse lovers today.

Foundation Stallions of Modern Breeding

When Arabian horses reached Europe, a few stallions changed the future of equestrian sport:

  • Nazeer in Egypt
  • Ofir in Poland
  • Aswan in Russia
  • Skowronek in England
  • Seanderich in Spain

Even the famous Thoroughbred racehorse traces back to just three Oriental sires: the Darley Arabian, the Godolphin Arabian, and the Byerley Turk.

Without these Arabian bloodlines, there would be no modern Thoroughbred.
