Why We Fall in Love with Events

Endurance Riding Memories: Unpublished Photos from Over 10 Years Ago

We like to think we go to events, races, and gatherings for the excitement, for the competition, or for the energy of being around people. But the real reason is usually much simpler, and much more human. We are quietly in love with anything that can leave a memory behind.

Events stay with us. They turn into little stories we can later replay in our minds, again and again, whenever we need comfort, inspiration, or just a moment of escape. Even when we sit alone, those memories show up like old friends, in a smell, a breeze, a sound, or in a conversation where we tell the same story one more time, sometimes with a little exaggeration, just to keep the magic alive.

That’s why we enjoy these moments so much. A race, a ride, a gathering, a shared experience, they give us something to return to. Something we can relive without ever moving from our place. Memories are how we travel back to the versions of ourselves who felt alive, connected, and completely present.

Endurance racing is exactly that kind of experience. The mountains, the forest trails, the clean air, the rhythm of the horse, the wild freedom of long distances, they all leave a mark that stays for years.

Recently, I found some old photos from an endurance competition I joined more than ten years ago. The moment I saw them, everything came back. The atmosphere, the silence of the forest, the energy of the horses, and the long miles that shaped unforgettable moments.

So I decided to bring a few of these unpublished photos out of my archive and share them here with you. Maybe they’ll bring back your own memories, or maybe they’ll simply add a warm moment to your day.
